What to do if your brakes fail

There are a few easy steps to take care of if your brakes fail, so don’t panic. Just remember these few easy steps and you will be able to stop without too much hassle.
DOWNSHIFT
Most people forget this easy step. They are panicking and don’t realize this will help them slow down significantly. If you don’t have a stick shift vehicle you still have the ability to downshift with an automatic. It is the D1 and D2 spots that allow you to downshift the engine.

EMERGENCY BRAKE
Now that you have slowed down with the downshifting then you can apply the emergency brake. It might jerk the steering wheel a little bit so be prepared to hold it steady. Steer over to the side of the road and call a tow truck to come pick up your vehicle.

OTHER OPTIONS
If either of the two options above fail then look for a hill to help slow you down. It will slow down your vehicle enough that you can pull over to the side of the road. You can also look for a pile of sand or embankment to drive the vehicle into as a last resort, because this is much better than hitting another vehicle or a tree.

But the most important part of anytime you are in an accident, don’t panic. It is when people panic that they start having problems, because they forget to think. Another good idea would be to start praying, God will help you through the accident. Good Luck and remember to get your brakes checked periodically.
